Excel Academy is dedicated to providing not only a solid academic foundation but also enrichment experiences that prepare scholars to succeed in high school, college and beyond.  We believe that physical education and creative arts courses promote the benefits of a wider curriculum to our scholars.

Our current creative arts course offerings are:


Visual Arts –

Visual Arts provides a creative outlet for positive self-expression. Scholars in preschool through middle school engage in intriguing collaborative activities that bridge cultural history with artistic design. Using a variety of artistic media, scholars are given the opportunity to explore their unique artistic voice while learning about world history, anthropology, and graphic design. Through our partnership with the DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative, scholars participate in a variety of field trips to local museums.

Dance –

Excel scholars begin dance training in preschool and continue their dance training through the 8th grade. Using a variety of dance styles, scholars practice physical awareness, athleticism, and balance while exploring world cultures and artistic expression. Scholars also engage in collaborative dance performances throughout the school year.


Excel Academy scholars participate in a fun and rigorous music curriculum.  Pre-K through 8th-grade scholars learns to read, perform and understand music through a variety of musical pedagogies, including vocal music, instrumental music, and electronic music.  Scholars also have the opportunity to study violin or participate in the Excel Academy Concert Choir as part of our after-school program.

Physical Education (P.E.) 

Physical Education utilizes a high-energy infusion of cooperative learning, physical fitness, sports, and Zumba Kids to promote health and wellness in our girls. Using the SPARK Curriculum, our teachers coach Excel scholars to utilize knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the performance of physical activities. Scholars also have the opportunity to participate in competitive sports. These include track, kickball, tennis, and tee-ball.

Health and Wellness

Middle school students comprehend concepts related to health promotion through identifying the life stages and systems of the human body. Students acquire skills to enhance their emotional health and relationships with others.Students demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, and strategies to improve health and performance. Students learn the importance of how nutrition affects personal health, academic achievement, fitness and performance, and brain function through classifying foods by nutritional content and nutritional value.
